Unstoppable Domains has recently launched blockchain domain names that allow users to send cryptocurrency to another user at their .zil or .crypto domain name address instead of the long string of characters which has historically made up cryptocurrency wallet addresses.

For example my Bitcoin address on Coinbase is currently 1Pg3ydtSwPbxbQZgWHFc7xmCfQhwU6sBq5. That’s a long string of characters to type in to send me some Bitcoin. Of course most crypto exchanges also have a QR code like the one below users can scan to send someone a payment as well which ties to the their long wallet address string. That is what sending payments has consisted of up until recently.
That’s all about to change with .zil and .crypto blockchain domains becoming available and allowing users to pick up their own name, business name, organization or whatever else ending in .zil or .crypto as long as the domain names are still available. These domains are unlike traditional non blockchain domains which charge a yearly renewal fee. The .crypto domains are $40 each and that is a one time fee which gives you access to the domain for life or until you sell or transfer it. Many of the domains have already been registered and I was informed that they have already had over 160,000 domains registered.
I registered JasonFranklin.crypto, so if you’d like to send me some Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Basic Attention Token, Tron or any other cryptocurrency feel free to do so… I’d love to test it out more. Yes, you heard that right, these domain names will allow crypto to be sent from any crypto blockchain not just Bitcoin or Ethereum to the blockchain domain name address.

What will .crypto and .zil domains be used for?
Payments — Replacing cryptocurrency addresses with human readable names. I own myname.crypto, I attach all of my crypto addresses to it, and I get paid in any currency.
Websites — Building uncensorable websites. I own mybusiness.crypto, I store my content on decentralized storage, I point my domain to my content. Now I have a website only I can put up and take down.
What’s next?
We’re excited to now support two domain extensions — .zil on the Zilliqa blockchain, which has low fees and .crypto on the Ethereum blockchain, which has a larger community.
